Ojukwu, Biafran and the present Hullabaloo

The BIAFRAN Hullabaloo

Ojukwu will remain immortal, not in the sense of reincarnation or life after life, but by the very essence of his ideas, especially the very last of his postulations – the BIAFRA OF THE MIND.

He moved from Biafra as ageographical and territorial construct to the Biafraof the mind. The concept of Biafra of the mind will continue to live as a legacy and as a burden for man...kind till the end of time.

Biafra as was declared by Ojukwu in 1967 was a state with aterritory runningthrough the East of the Niger in what was known as the Eastern Region of Nigeria. The existence of this Republic ended in 1970 when the beleaguered state surrendered after a three-year bloody war. But, after the inevitable hour, when the grave was covered, Ojukwu left behind for the world, not the Biafraof bricksand mortar and ogbunigwe but the Biafra of the mind.

Indeed, Ojukwu’s declaration of the new Biafra is a deep philosophical and ideological proposal for a new world order. It is a reflection that only could have come from a world patriot. Ojukwu’s Biafra-of-the mind is an ideal of justice, a metaphor for man’s irrepressible persuasion to stand up against inhumanity and injustice b yman to man.

It transcends geographical boundariesand ethnic identities. It is no more the struggle of the Igbo for self-determination in the face of genocide. It is no more about the 30monthsbloody civil war that left in its trail the devastation and despoliation of the Igbo heartland. It is a clarion call for the evolution of “anation”.

By the Biafra of the mind, Ojukwu left behind not only for Nigeria but also for the world a great burden. The challenge is for Nigeria, nay the world, to replace the Biafra of bricks and mortar with the ideal of justice, with the emerging state called “the nation”. A nation lives in the mind.

Chief Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, was asked what message he had for Nigerians at his 70th birthday?

His was ''I want to thank every Nigerian for one thing or the other contributing to making my day a success. The situation in Nigeria is very bad, but I want to assure them that it is not a situation that is irreparable, it can be repaired. It requires wisdom and wit. Whereas some people say we are one nation, I want to tell my country men and women that we are not. We are an agglomeration of people seeking to become one nation, the search for one nation has become very valid. We have not arrived there and the only way we can get there is through a sovereign national conference. We need and should design and re-design a polity that accommodates not one group but everybody. My fellow country men and women (taking about Nigerians, I have a strong belief that we can make it. What has transpired in the past is an aberration; the concept that might is right is an aberration. It is only through a national conference that we can create a Nigerian of ourselves, instead of patching it up . My beloved people I believe that together we can make it ''

What then is Uwazuruike and his men saying and doing? Which road maps are they following? Who or what is their inspiration? Could this be the BIAFRA OF THE MIND preached lately by the fallen warlord?

Will I be wrong to say that today's motivating factor is power and money? Your guess will be as good as mine. They are all looking for their pockets. This is not what the struggles represents if at all we should be talking about any such struggles. This is not what Ojukwu represents. This is not how to secede from a nation if one must.

Declaring and declaring, printing passport and money( illegal tenders) without recourse to the laid down rules for such exercise. For example, presenting such demands to The United Nations. This main-market and ariaria Aba market approach is an antiquated paternalism devoid of modern man's approach. Ojukwu will remain immortal, not in the sense of reincarnation or life after life, but by the very essence of his ideas, especiallythe verylast of his postulations – the Biafra of the mind.

A nation lives in the mind. till today all these ado from Uwazuruike's group and likes has not yield nothing and can hardly take us any where.

Massob, Zionist, Radio Biafra etc are all the same. Movement without a defined pattern, wobbling wheels. These guys are not talking to fools. With all the money Uwazuruike has generated from this movement what has he done with it. Rehabilitation of wounded soldiers someone may answer. That is is just a fraction from all the money he collected. And other groups now see this is a good business, and instead of them to come together so that we can claim our stake in Nigeria they are there fighting and accusing each other of one shortcoming or the other.

Today Uwazuruike has a case of kidnapping on his name to answer. What sort of people are we. Now the Zionist leader, a Lawyer like Uwazuruike who knows the best way to go about this, through application to United Nation, through the full and unbiased representation has chosen the way of Uwazuruike, to deceive our people and exploit them. Have there been a convention of the igbo stakeholders to discuss this? They are postlating one theory or the other as to why our stakeholders can not show up at these stage. All lies! Just grand conspiracy.

Biafran Radios and their organizers are also fighting each other. I pity you guys who have chosen to be deceived. I advise you to come out this people's cocoons.
History can never be changed! Like truth, NO matter how hard you try to hide it, it ALWAYS catches up to you. Nigerians ought to know Ojukwu and his band of secessionist ideologies. Let us have an intellectual debate on this issue Nigerians and not sentimental arguments from which there is no benefit. I will be back!

Aroh needs help!

JOHN Aroh, a 32-year-old truck pusher, visited The
Guardian’s Rutam House, Isolo, Lagos offices on a Monday
morning, tears welling in his eyes. According to him, the
urgent need to provide for his triplet forced him out of his
abode as early as 5am to avoid traffic, achieve his mission
and still go back to his daily hustle. He lives at Okeafor,
Badagry Expressway.
His joy knew no bounds when his wife, Patricia, gave birth
to the triplets at the Badagry General Hospital on June 23
last year. Bu the joy is now short-lived. Due to the nature of
his job, Aroh finds it hard to provide for the basic needs of
the babies (two boys and one girl). And the little money he
gets from odd job is being exhausted on the welfare the
babies.
“Things are really rough and it is the grace of God and
people around that has helped my family and I so far,” he
cried out.
Aroh is an indigene of Ugwuaji Awkunanaw in Enugu State.
But after another indigene successfully convinced his
parents that he needed Aroh to serve under him, he headed
to Lagos. The man, according to Aroh, said he would set
him up after a period of time but that never happened. He
served his master who sells building materials at Coker,
Orile, Lagos for six years. He began in 2000 and got his
freedom in 2006.
“When I even told my Oga that my wife gave birth to triplets,
he only gave me N3, 000 to go take care of them. God
knows best but the only thing I think of now is to take good
care of my triplets because I want them to be useful in life,”
he said.
Although distraught, he says going back to the village is not
an option. “I now help people to carry loads with my truck
at Odun Ade, Orile popularly known as Coker. I dropped out
of secondary school because I had no one to pay my school
fees. I am the first son of my parents and I have four sisters
in the village too.”
He confessed that kind-hearted people have being generous
to the triplets, but things are still very rough. “I am jobless
and helpless; I really need help to take care of my triplets.”
In his effort to seek a way out, he visited Government House
in Enugu and attempted to get to the Lagos State
government but all proved abortive. His words: “The least I
got from the government officials was to get a good job but
I have really tried.”
In a letter addressed to the Governor of Enugu State,
Sullivan Chime in April this year, Aroh pleaded: “I and my
family are living at the mercy of kind-hearted individuals.
Even to buy baby foods for the triplets is very difficult. I am
therefore on behalf of my family appealing for your
interventions - materially, financially or in form of
employment.”
“It is not my joy to come out publicly to seek help but the
reality of watching my triplets go through pains, worries me
and I really desire to do something about that,” he added.
His wife, an orphan, sells pure water at Okeafor, Badagry
Expressway, Lagos.
“My wife sells pure water and she is doing the little she can
do to help the family. I met her in the village but we got
married in Lagos in 2003.”
